Even if the intimacy is with another woman (instead of a man, like her attackers), whom she was falling in love with prior to the attack. But I cannot believe any woman would be so quick to seek out that type of intimacy so soon after a sexual assault-especially the type & degree that’s described in this story. It’s in most cop’s nature to bury painful experiences & run from their fears. I’m supposed to give my buy-in to a couple who share their first experience of love making together just a couple days after one of those women was kidnapped, tortured, & violently gang raped? I buy that a female cop would be willing to return to street duty too quickly after such a brutal attack. The believability of the storyline just isn’t there for me. Instead of enjoying the romantic scenes I kept reminding myself Sam was raped less than a week ago lol. It totally slices right through the fantasy world being created up to that point & harshly snaps you back in the reality. My one problem was the sexual assault aspect mid-book. All of that goes a long way towards making the reader suspend reality for a bit as you listen along & become invested in the story/people. Solid plot & story, great characters & their development throughout make them even more likable, author did awesome job with the buildup between Tori & Sam (gradually bringing them together as a couple).

I’m a fan of the series & cant wait for more. And Patrick Doe has other plans.Could’ve been 5 stars across the board. Unfortunately, Deputy Sullivan is very distracting. She will break the case, find justice and go on her way.

But where Hunter failed Cameron intends to win. The crime scenes are covered with the trademark signs of the fiendish Patrick Doe, whose handiwork has been investigated by Dallas detective Tori Hunter and others. The complexities stretch local resources to the limit, and the FBI joins the case with Agent Cameron Ross in the lead.
